The Gem Collection's Estate Trunk Show comes early this year!

Starting July 21st, through the 25th, the Gem Collection is having their Annual Estate Trunk Show. With new pieces coming in just for this show and pieces from the showroom on sale.

This show features some antique treasures featuring Old European Cut Diamonds. Often abbreviated to OEC, this cut is a style developed in Europe that was popular from 1890 to 1930. At this time machine cutting was not an option so all stones were cut by hand meaning each stone is unique to the craftsmen that cut them. This cut is a mark of a bygone era before automation and mass production and the jewelry that carries these stones are few and far between.

One of the most iconic pieces of Estate jewelry is the Cameo. This style dates back to Ancient Rome, with carvings made in shell, stone and gems. Cameos often feature portraits of women from history or myth, such at Queens and Roman or Greek Goddesses. Cameos remained a popular choice for brooches and necklaces up until the Art deco period of the early 1900s. 

The Pocket Watch we know today was invented by Peter Henlein, a master locksmith, in the year 1510, in Nuremberg, Germany. Throughout the 16th century the manufacturing spread throughout the rest of Europe. The pocket watch became the earliest portable timepiece that did not rely on a powersource. Their popularity lead to clothes being constructed with pocket specifically for the watch and pocket watches became a social symbol and heirloom to be passed down.
